Mubarak stepping down

Mubarak steps down as President of Egypt and hands power to military. After weathering weeks of protest, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigned Friday from the position he has held for 29 years and has handed power to the military.
“In these grave circumstances that the country is passing through, President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak has decided to leave his position as the president of the republic,” Vice President Omar Suleiman said on state television. “He has mandated the Armed Forces Supreme Council to run the state.”
