     In the book of history some pages are made exceptional because they record the deeds of giants among mankind, men and women whose impact is felt long after they are no longer with us.


     They bring with them a depth of knowledge, a foresight for what is right, a sharp sense of justice and a desire to make life for everyone around them that much better. And their lives are measured not by what they say but by the tangible evidence of what they achieve. Such people stand tall and mark an era for their people.


     Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding President of the UAE and the Father of the Nation was one such man. Today, in this splendid and truly blessed land we mark his death anniversary by recalling the seeds he planted across the spectrum, seeds that today have reached fruition and placed the UAE squarely on the global map.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, Catherine Ashton, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State of the United States, and John Kerry, Chairman of the American Senate Committee on Foreign Relations visited Tahrir Square after the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

      RINKABY — For the fifth day running, the Omani Scouts continued their participation in the camp activities of the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in this Swedish city which hosts the event from July 27 to August 6 under the theme “Simply Scouting.”


      While keeping the fast along with their Arab and Muslim brethren, the Omani Scouts interacted with everyone and participated in all scouting, religious, scientific and sport activities and events along with 39,000 leaders and Scouts from 150 countries.

   Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said he will not relent in pursuing "terrorist groups" in the country.He was speaking after talks with Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu, who had urged Syria to end military operations against civilian demonstrators.

 

    Security forces meanwhile continued the crackdown, and reports say nearly 30 more people were killed.More than 1,700 civilians are believed to have been killed since the uprising began in mid-March.

     Tens of thousands of people have reportedly been arrested.Meanwhile, the United States is reported to be preparing to impose new sanctions on the Assad regime.


     The US would target "major elements of Syria's financial and commercial infrastructure that are providing critical support to the regime," a US official said.


     'Concrete steps' Mr Assad's comments came after the meeting with Mr Davutoglu in Damascus on Tuesday.


     The official Syrian account of their talks quoted Mr Assad as saying security forces would "not relent in pursuing terrorist groups" to ensure the stability of the nation and the safety of its citizens.
